Transportation and Payment
Lesson 1
-
¿Adónde va?
- Where are you going?
-
adónde
- to where
Grammar Note
Pay attention to this new word "adónde" and learn how to differentiate it from "dónde". "Dónde" means "where" and is used to ask questions about the location of something. "Adónde", on the other hand, is the form used to inquire about the destination of someone or something, as in "to where..." Consequently, in Spanish you would say, ¿Adónde vas? (To where are you going?) Therefore, you cannot say, "*To where is the book?" Instead you day, "Where is the book?" (¿Dónde está el libro?).

Grammar Note
I bet the word "tomar" rings a bell. That's because in Spanish, the verb "tomar" can either mean "to take" or "to drink". The context will always help you determine which one is being used.

- from
Grammar Note
I'm sure that you remember that "from" is also de in Spanish. We have used it in Soy de los Estados Unidos (I'm from the United States) to express one's origin. However, we can also use it to mean desda, just like in this case, to show where the action originates.
